February 2022 Book Reviews

February ended with 4 reads total. I started the month with my third Taylor Jenkins Reid book, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. It did not disappoint!

Next up was the fourth of the Harry Potter series. This one took me the majority of the month to read, but not for a bad reason - it’s just long!

I finished up the month wrapping up The Roughest Draft and Outlawed in the last week.

Overall, two of the four I enjoyed, and the other two I felt simply… eh. Nothing particularly special!

Below are my reads for January and my candid reviews about what I liked, didn’t like, and more.

Order listed below is the order in which I read them. Note: I don’t summarize the books (more so give my takes), as the summaries can be easily found online!

Book #1: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

Author: Taylor Jenkins Reid

Rating: 4/5

This was such a fun read! I enjoyed how it was told from Evelyn’s point of view as she verbally shared her life story with Monique. It was so much fun to peek into old Hollywood and learn about how things happened back then, both good and bad. I could’ve read a whole extra book of Evelyn’s life stories. They were so much fun to picture and had me laughing and crying right along with the storyline!

The ending was bittersweet and totally unexpected. If you enjoyed Daisy Jones & the Six or Malibu Rising (two of TJR’s other novels), you’ll love this!

P.S. There is a small part of the storyline that ties into Malibu Rising. It’s not particularly significant, but it was neat to read!

Book #2: Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire

Author: JK Rowling

Rating: 4/5

My second book for February was the fourth story of the Harry Potter series! I enjoyed this book slightly less than books 1-3, but not for any major reason. At times it felt like there was a lot of insignificant filler content that could’ve been left out. For instance, Hermonie’s S.P.E.W. campaign. But the book was still incredibly enjoyable overall, and I was shocked at the twist at the end!

Book #3: The Roughest Draft

Author: Emily Wibberley & Austin Siegemund-Broka

Rating: 3/5

The Roughest Draft was a cute story about two writers. They’ve written some books together, have a falling out, and now they’re struggling to write their third book as co-authors.

I liked it, but didn’t love it! All in all, it just felt sort of dragged out. I started to get an idea of the path the story would take, and when it did take that turn, it wasn’t very exciting!

My favorite part of the story was the setting. It takes place in Key Largo and I loved the way the town was described!

Book #4: Outlawed

Author: Anna North

Rating: 3/5

Outlawed is the first Western I’ve read, and I ended the story feeling relieved that it was over. I didn’t hate it and was able to get through it easily, but overall the story was sort of drab. Granted, there were some edge-of-your-seat moments that take place when the main character, Ada, gets involved with the law, but that was about as exciting as it got. Ada’s character felt like she had no personality. It was also a bit difficult to keep the side characters’ storylines and pasts straight.
